You have a fair variety of aircraft, from ye old faithful Cessna C172 Skyhawk and Beechcraft Baron 58, to Ultralight, Glider, Helicopters, Aerobatic, Jets, a Sea Plane, and even a Combat Aircraft (F/A-18).Īfter you decide on your Aircraft you need to choose a Location to fly (there are many!) My suggestion is to first fly out of an airport near you and see what amazing graphics looked like back in time, in the year 2006. But the "authentic Controls" will always be using either a Joystick or a Yoke along with a keyboard and mouse. It should also be added that you can play this game with a Keyboard and Mouse, there is also Game Controller support, so you could use that too. But I should buy a Yoke with a Throttle, Mixture, and Propeller Control because I want this experience to be as realistic as possible for me. Don't take that the wrong way, I'm using a joystick, not a yoke. Start with the Joystick first because it's less expensive, Yokes are for more hobbyists, or people looking for more realism to their flight simulator experience. Gameplay: Pro-tip, if you've never played a Flight Simulator game at all, first you're going to want to get yourself a Joystick or a Yoke. I've been on a bit of a hiatus from flight training, but in the last Steam Summer Sale I picked up both Flight Simulator X, and the latest flight simulator! I now view both of these games as a further investment so I can at least "think aviation" in a simulated setting. But after moving out on my own, I saved up enough money to get flight lessons from a local Flight School. I always wanted to fly but never wanted to spend the outrageous amounts of money to go to school/college for it. I've got my flight hours, but I haven't taken the FAA Knowledge Test and I haven't had my Check ride yet. Story: There isn't any story for the game, Just missions where you are trained up on how to fly and then participate in various missions learning how to fly IFR, flying Passenger Missions, Cargo, and Participating in aircraft races, and tricks.įor my own personal story, I've actually taken flight lessons, but I haven't finished getting my official Private Pilot License from the FAA. If you don't like reading, or are curious about watching gameplay check out my video here: If the Newer Flight Simulator didn't work I knew at least this one would work on my computer.įlight Simulator is a game best enjoyed by aviation enthusiasts, however anyone who wants to just play around with an aircraft can definitely have that itch scratched here.įlight Simulator X: Steam Edition was developed by Microsoft (duh), and released in 2006 and lets you play as a variety of aircraft, take some simulated flight lessons, and fly from airports all over the world. I picked this Flight Simulator game up as my "Plan B".
